The Art of the Portrait: Foundations in Drawing
PRESENTED BY: Ana Johnson-Moore

"I found the instructor very helpful in answering questions. Very informative and I would love to take more classes with her. She also sent us the slide shows on everything to do with color. Which was great because I didn't have any notepaper to take down notes. She also had good tips and advice on watercolor painting from her experiences. Would definitely recommend!"
Feedback from a former class participant. In this five-session class, students will learn the foundations of portrait drawing and build the skills needed to create a cohesive finished portrait. We’ll begin by studying the structure of the head, learning how to approach different angles and proportions with confidence. From there, we’ll focus on individual facial features, explore how to capture expressions, and develop an understanding of light, shadow, and value to bring portraits to life.
The course emphasizes pencil drawing as the primary medium, making it an excellent foundation for sketching or preparing studies that can later be developed in paint, ink, or other materials. Some prior drawing experience is recommended, but students of all levels who are eager to strengthen their portrait skills are welcome. INSTRUCTOR: Ana Johnson-Moore
