14 Seneca Lane, Sandwich
When we moved here in 2018, the ¾-acre property held only a handful of basic shrubs. Since then, we’ve added a pool, more than 60 shrubs and trees, and over 200 perennials. Along the way, we learned—very much the hard way—about the local rabbit population, who happily devoured more than half of our early plantings. After several years of trying every deterrent imaginable (I was so hopeful), we finally accepted reality and now plant only perennials and annuals they don’t eat… at least for now.
The property is home to more than 30 hydrangeas, including a mix of Arborescens (Annabelle), Macrophylla (Bigleaf), Paniculata (Limelight), and Quercifolia (Oakleaf). There are many distinct garden areas throughout the landscape, along with numerous pots filled with annuals and perennials. A vegetable garden sits on the east side of the house.
We continue to work on the garden and add to it.
