Capture Autumn with Pastels

​Class Description: For artists revisiting this beautiful colorful medium or have some experience with soft pastels.  There will be a short demo. Students start with color and layering exercises. We will discuss composition, value, mood/feeling and reference photo choices.  (Bring a few of your own references or use one supplied in class.)  Start and hopefully finish a fall landscape. Please bring lunch or snack for short break.​
​​Materials List: Note: Wendi will bring extras on materials list, no worries if you don’t have. There will be pastels and surfaces available for students if needed.  $10 materials fee for those who need them.  
  • Assorted soft pastels (not oil pastels). Hard or NuPastels. 
  • Two 9x12 Uart 400 grit paper Natural color or Pastel Mat paper. Wendi will provide work sheet papers.
  • Foamcore or wood backing board to tape work surfaces to. Should be larger than 9x12
  • Light colored towel or dish towel
  • Apron, wet wipes, paper towels,
  • Two printed fall reference photos or use Wendi’s references.
  • 18” ruler, color wheel
  • drawing pad and pencil for thumbnail
Wendi Smith - Biography

Wendi Smith is a late bloomer to the fine arts world.  She retired in 2012 and rekindled her love for painting after being away from it for 45 years.  It’s never too late! Her preferred mediums are oil and pastel.  Her style is representational and impressionistic. Wendi’s favorite subjects are landscapes, seascapes and is inspired by Mother Nature.  Her work is in private collections across the country and has received many awards. Wendi paints with seniors in assisted living communities and teaches pastel workshops at art centers on the Cape. ​
