'Investigating Composition in the Still Life' PRESENTED BY HILLARY OSBORN
Class: Sundays, March 5-April 2
Time: :1:00-4:00PM Location: Sandwich Arts Alliance Center, 124 Route 6A, Sandwich Cost: $195 members/$225 non-members A class for students who would like to explore what composition is in a painting. How does one’s eye travel around a picture plane? We will play with different set-ups each week to practice building the structure of a painting and look at examples in art history. We will focus on elements in the design such as shape, color, line, scale to move the eye around and challenge our thinking. This class will produce studies and not finished paintings.
This class is for oil or acrylic painters who want to explore or challenge their abilities in creating new perspectives in their work. INSTRUCTOR: Hillary Osborn
Hillary Osborn is a plein air and studio painter living on Cape Cod. She holds a master's degree in fine arts from the University of North Carolina. Her paintings have been exhibited in New York City, California, Boston, North Carolina and throughout Cape Cod. She has received numerous awards for her work including “Best Nocturne” by Plein Air Magazine for her painting “Twilight on Mill Pond” in 2016. She teaches group and individual lessons, juries exhibitions and lectures on art.
Childhood summers were spent either on Cape Cod or up in Muskoka Canada visiting family and her great Uncle Lowrie Warrener's studio and cottage. Warrener was a well-known Canadian abstract modernist painter (1900-1983). After ten years of painting in Provincetown and exhibiting her work in New York, Hillary and her husband Doug Rugh, also an oil painter, moved to their present studio space in 2008 at the historic Queen's Buyway building on Palmer Avenue in Falmouth Massachusetts and opened up the Osborn and Rugh Gallery. In 2014 their paintings were included in an exhibition at the Boston State House in honor of Senate President Therese Murray. Paints General Color Palette:
Painting surface: Canvas boards or canvas - variety of sizes 8x10, 9x12, 11x14,or 12x16 and at least 2 16x20 panels. Clean up: Clean up brushes in walnut oil (or linseed) for a green studio, then wash brushes with soap and water. (I use Murphy’s oil soap) Air dry.
