You, TOO, can own a piece of the historic sandwich boardwalk!
You, too, can own a piece of the historic Sandwich Boardwalk, which has been chosen by National Geographic as one of the Top 10 Boardwalks in the United States.
Since 1875 the beloved Sandwich Boardwalk, also known as the Mill Creek Foot Bridge, has provided Sandwich residents and visitors access to Town Neck Beach from Sandwich Village. However, it has been more than a path to the beach. Over the years the Boardwalk has also been a place for many special occasions. It is where people get married, celebrate birthdays, get engaged and congregate after graduation. Generations continue to relive childhood memories of jumping off the bridge on a warm summer’s day. Over the years the Boardwalk has been damaged by many storms. To help finance repairs after one of the storms, residents were offered an opportunity to buy a ‘dedication’ plank. The planks were then inscribed with the buyer's personalized message. When the Boardwalk was severely damaged by a Nor’easter in 2022, many of the ‘dedication’ planks were lost. Many were also saved, cataloged and claimed by their owners. Some others were never claimed. Through the generosity of the Town of Sandwich, Sandwich Arts Alliance was able to acquire some of these unclaimed planks. SAA Visual Artists went to work and have turned each piece into stunning works of art. These beautiful planks will be auctioned off in early May. Stay tuned for further details! |
