Micaela Champagne
I have studied various art forms such as drawing, 2D design, 3D design, painting, photography, graphic design, fashion design, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, stained glass, sewing, and welding. I received 2 undergraduate degrees from Rhode Island College: Studio Arts-painting with a minor in Anthropology and a pK-12 Art Education, as well as, a Master’s in Art Education. I have also taken several undergraduate art classes at Maine College of Art and art courses through RISD’s continuing education.
My personal teaching philosophy developed from my thesis work, which is called “MOR-IN-TOUCH.” This was developed from my maiden name at the time and is meant to explore what it means to be more in touch with personal ideas, art materials, processes, working environment, and peers around us. Being creative, making connections, and establishing community are all important to me as an art teacher.
Overall, I enjoy working in a variety of materials and learning new ways to express myself. Gardening, home renovations, exploring the outdoors, hiking, camping, dancing, cooking, making art, and being with family and friends make me the happiest. I live on Cape Cod with my husband Geoff and 4 daughters: Matejah, Souleia, Luana and Daniysa, and Blazer- our Australian cattle dog. As of 2020-2021, this will be my 11th year teaching visual arts at Norton High School.
