Many of us remember doing “scratchboard” in third grade where we scratched into a black-crayon-covered piece of cardboard with a toothpick or some other barely-pointed tool to create a piece of art that was worthy of hanging on the refrigerator. This workshop will not bring back any of those memories. Attendees will learn the basic strokes and techniques needed to create lovely scratchboard art, through this intermediate project - an image of a cat’s face. Through step-by-step application of basic principles and techniques, you will get to experience the pleasure of creating a piece of art that garners attention and, hopefully, praise. This workshop will introduce you to the basic tools and techniques to open the world of scratchboard art to you, and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish through this medium. This workshop is suitable for people who have some knowledge of drawing, as it is not a “learn to draw” class. Caution: As sharp tools are used, this is not suitable for children. Also, beware. Scratchboard art can become addictive.
Materials: Students are asked to bring an x-Acto knife with a #11 blade, and some replacement blades, as well as a regular lead pencil.
They will be provided with an 8x10 scratchboard, a small piece of scratchboard for practicing, a scratchboard tool, kneaded eraser, and transfer paper, as well as written instructions for the project.
$7 Materials Fee is payable to the Instructor at the first class.
