The group is named after the brand of small, brightly colored soprano ukulele the members play. Cape Cod Ukulele Club is lead by Cathy Hatch and began in 2014. The Lower Cape group meets once a week (Tuesdays 7-8:30pm) at Harwich Community Center, 100 Oak Street Harwich, MA. The group is about having fun and playing good music. Harmonicas, kazoos, train whistles, various noisemakers, general silliness, and fits of laughter occur at any practice or show. We have been described as Hee Haw but with ukuleles. Unlikely Strummers Featuring ukulele players from across southern MA, the Unlikely Strummers are based at An Unlikely Story bookstore, in Plainville. They are directed by Cindy Miller. This is definitely not your great-grandfather's ukulele music! The ukulele is a surprisingly versatile instrument that's suited to almost any genre, from 1920s "standards" to early rock-n-roll, and from country to contemporary top 40s hits. You never know what we might play next! The Unlikely Strummers provide family-friendly music that will make you want to sing - or dance - along! No matter what your age, we'll leave you smiling! Steve Gregory's UkeTopian Ukulele Band features John Williams, Eddy and Dee Dee Nickerson, Joan Gregory, Chris Harris and Kevin Fitta on various sized Ukuleles and voices. The Cotuit Center for the Arts Ukulele Allstars, also directed by Steve, features members of his Intermediate Ukulele class that meets Saturday's at the CCFTA. Steve is the owner of Score Music in Sandwich where he teaches ukulele and guitar. Come on over to Score at 15 Jan Sebastian Dr Unit B1 - our instructors teach tons of different instruments. http://www.scoremusicstudios.com/Home.html |
Originating in Portugal, the ukulele is most closely associated with Hawaii as Portuguese instrument-makers emigrated to the Big Island in the 1880’s. The ukulele is enjoying a resurgence of popularity in recent years. This four-stringed cousin of the guitar comes in four “flavors:” soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. Ukulele music can be complex or comical, and it’s always entertaining.“““ |
