I grew up on a farm in Upper New York State in a family of 12 children. Needless to say, we had little money, so we learned to make do with what we had. I started out making Christmas and birthday gifts at an early age. After graduating from Tully Central School, in Tully, NY, I married and raised our two children while working and going to college part time. I became a program director for Senior citizens where I led programs and taught crafts. Then I moved on to doing the same at a low income apartment complex, working with all ages. I was still going to college while working. I graduated from Elmira College in Elmira, NY, in education and went on to get my masters. I taught for 25 years in Elementary and Secondary Education in Elmira and Dundee, NY, using crafts to add variety to my lessons.
Because I enjoyed learning whatever new craft I could, I took classes whenever they were offered in multiple genres, such as: jewelry making, nature crafts, quilling felting, pottery, etc. I took my first quilting class in 1980 and have enjoyed making traditional quilts. Then I was introduced to artistic quilts and have since made a variety of wall-hangings using multi-media to enhance my art, even winning first place in people choice category at one quilt show. My husband and I moved to Cape Cod in 2019 just before the pandemic. We knew no one and as a social creature, started joining classes at the Council of Aging. I decided that I still needed a purpose in my life so started volunteering there. Since I have had past experience and loved crafting, I decided to teach crafts. I now have quite a following and try my best to offer new and exciting crafts. I have even been asked to teach things I have never made, but through Pinterest and You-tube, I am usually able to figure it out. |
