The Sandwich Arts Alliance will be featuring one of Cape Cod’s vocal gems, Jeanne Grady Prendergast with various collaborators in a program “Jeanne and Friends” on the Glass Town Stage of the iconic Sandwich Town Hall.
This evening of music will showcase Jeanne and her musical allies across a wide variety of genres. “Jeanne and Friends” will feature a selection of her extensive repertoire from opera, operetta, Celtic tunes, Broadway, and Americana. A combination of requested favorites and brand-new material is planned. Jeanne is familiar to local audiences as a frequent soloist with the Cape Cod Chorale, a long-time cantor at Corpus Christi Church, as well as a caroler in Victorian garb during Sandwich Holly Days. A classically-trained soprano, Jeanne has also appeared with Cape Cod Opera, Eventide Arts, and most recently, in “Moms on Broadway.” Accompanying Jeanne on keyboards will be Misao Koyama, whose skill and artistry is well known in musical circles |
About Jeanne's 'Friends'
Joining Jeanne will be Thom Dutton, also known as “the Troubadour Harper”. Thom and Jeanne will be performing some selections of Celtic favorites for soprano and harp. The two collaborated on a CD “I Know Where I’m Goin’” which features Thom’s arrangements of these haunting melodies and beautiful lyrics.
Sandwich’s first lady of song, the 91 year young Jane Ellis is also appearing. Jane will be performing one of her show-stopping numbers, and the talented family singers, Kathy Ellis Knowles and Jim Ellis accompanied by the incomparable Marge Dolby will also be adding to the celebration, a frequent favorite at First Night Sandwich over the years.
To contrast ages and to continue the friends and family theme, Jeanne’s son Liam Prendergast, a freshman at Holy Cross, will be playing guitar and performing some contemporary offerings. Local audiences might remember him from recent performances of “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Chicago”, “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Our Town”.
Capping off the evening will be the re-appearance of the Moms on Broadway. This multi-age, multi-background cast has performed to sold-out houses at the Cotuit Center for the Arts for the past two years. The show, conceived by Gwen Bainer, is a musical revue hilariously themed around motherhood. The cast is reuniting for one night to support a fellow Mom!
