PAST EVENT
CELEBRATE ARTWEEK AT HOME by participating in the
SAA Poem-athon to Benefit the Sandwich Food Pantry
Take part in the Sandwich Arts Alliance (SAA) Literary Group's "Poem-athon," and you can support the Arts while helping others!
This first SAA Poem-athon offers you the chance to receive (or give!) an original poem created especially for you or yours. As payment, we ask you to make a donation to the Sandwich Food Pantry which has been seriously hit by the dire needs of our Cape Cod community.
Who doesn’t love poems? Instead of a birthday card, why not give a child or a friend a poem. or maybe request one just to cheer yourself up. Good idea?? Sure it is. This is a unique and personal gift you can give to yourself or someone else and help the Sandwich Food Pantry to help our neighbors. It’s a win-win. Food for the Pantry, an original poem for you, and a busy writer from the Sandwich Arts Alliance! |
Here’s how the POEM-ATHON works:
1. Provide recipient name, contact information and any relevant information on the Poem Request Form. Let us know whether the poem is for an adult or child? Birthday or other special occasion? Specific subject or the writer’s best shot? (We can offer haiku, thanks to Christina Laurie!)
2. Pledge (honor system) to make a donation to the Sandwich Food Pantry via their website. (suggested minimum $15) Please be generous and donate now!
You will be directed to the secure donation page of the Sandwich Food Pantry, managed by Network for Good.
3. Your poem request will be assigned to a writer, composed, then emailed to the recipient. We expect this process will take a week or two. Some poem writers might require a little longer, so be patient. You’ll receive it via the email address you provide.
Know all writers will do their VERY best to write something wonderful. The Literary Arts group includes published poets in haiku and the San Francisco Romantic Movement of the 60s, among others, but most of us generally write fiction, non-fiction, memoir, children’s books, or biography. So, what you get is what you get. Remember, your special just-for-you poem is for 1) a good cause, 2) for fun, and 3) for Poetry Month!

A Message from the Sandwich Food Pantry
"During the past month of the COVID-19 shutdown, the number of individuals and families served at The Sandwich Food Pantry has increased by 75%, while our volunteer participation has decreased substantially due to concerns of infection. We are especially heartened to learn about the ‘Poem-athon’, a new, fun event hosted by the Literary Group of the Sandwich Arts Alliance to celebrate National Poetry Month. Thank you ALL for thinking of us!"
