“The Business of Writing” is a three-part virtual series for writers and authors at all levels.. Writers may know to write but often know little about the business aspect of writing and publishing. These three nationally-known, experienced speakers will cover essential information about marketing, legal, and financial issues. The series is presented September 19, 26 and October 3 by the Literary Arts group of the Sandwich Arts Alliance.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Kira Henschel, is the publisher of HenschelHAUS Publishing, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Barbara Eppich Struna will discuss “Financial Considerations for Writers.” She is an international best-selling author and president of the Cape Cod Writers Center. Her historical novels have accumulated literary awards and thousands of reviews. Barbara will talk about self-publishing costs and how to choose between using an agent or traditional publishing, in addition to how to price out a new book, calculate taxes on books sold, and how to deal with bookstores. Join Barbara for an insider’s discussion on a challenging topic.

Barbara Mende will present “The Legalities of Writing.” Didn’t think writing had anything to do with legal considerations? Think again. Barbara holds an M.L.S. from Simmons, an M.B.A. and a paralegal certificate from Northeastern. She will cover contracts, the author’s veto power over layout and cover art, and termination clauses, as well as important information about copyrights, trademarks, payment of royalties and more.
