Lee Blessing’s Eleemosynary
The Alliance announces its production of Lee Blessing’s hauntingly beautiful play, Eleemosynary, scheduled for November 13 through 15 at Sandwich Town Hall.
Play director Carol McManus, no stranger to Eleemosynary, promises a memorable theater experience. “I have had the honor of playing the character Dorothea on two occasions and, in fact, I’ve directed Eleemosynary before. Lee Blessing’s insightful writing definitely speaks to not only the complexities of human relationships but also to the resilience of our spirit.”
Produced with minimal staging, the play focuses on the interaction between three generations of decidedly independent women: Matriarch and true eccentric Dorothea, her brilliant scientist daughter Artemis (Artie), and Artie’s daughter Echo, a teenage spelling champion who has been left to be raised by her grandmother.
Bringing this stage family to life will be seasoned actors Karen McPherson as Dorothea and Patti Anderson as Artie. McPherson and Anderson will be joined by a wonderful young talent well known to Cape Cod theater goers, Erica Morris, who will play the role of Echo.
“Although the staging is minimal, the impact is great,” McManus assures us. “Blessing’s writing is like a beautiful poem and with these incredibly capable actors in control, our audience is in for a truly wonderful theater experience.
